Totally reminded me of my days living in SP during the late 80's. Was here for a meeting, so really didn't spend much time in the hotel. It was pretty fun to reminisce, though. The lobby is amazing and a true time-trip back to the good old days.
For me, the "oldness" of the hotel did not detract from enjoying the conference downstairs, and I really enjoyed the view from my room. Breakfast was included in the room rate, which is fairly standard for many Brazilian hotels. Breakfast here was delicious and really had an enormous variety of items to choose from.
My room was clean, well-appointed, and comfortable. Sheets were clean and fresh, and the bathroom was stocked with clean white towels. Yes, I imagine that the hotel has likely changed hands a few times over the years, and isn't the trendy 5-star grand hotel it used to be, but if you can get a good price on a room here, it really is in a wonderful location, and is worth it at a discounted rate - or just if you want to have a little time travel back to the 80's...Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Tifany T.Miami, Estados Unidos2251420 de ago. de 2016
Words cannot describe my disappointment ....
Don't thrust the online pictures, this hotel is very dark and sad.
The reality this hotel is really old.. Furniture, decoration everything are so expired, old fashion... The decoration never changed since the 80's.
The staff unfriendly and rude, exception the guy who is charge of the luggages.
This is not a 5 stars hotel. Don't go there for the price you can have way better room... Not from the 19th century.
I had to change for a way cheaper hotel and a REAL 5 stars... With 2016 furniture.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Monica S.Jacksonville, Estados Unidos41321284135013 de nov. de 2015
I've stayed at Maksoud twice now and while the decor is a flashback to the 70s, the location is ideal, the value is great and it houses São Paulo's best cocktail bar, Frank, a separate operation that took up residence in the lobby of the hotel.
Yes, the decor is super retro, and hasn't seen an update for decades, but there's something historically cool about this place. The grand lobby and the bellboys look like something out of a movie. The bellboys wear the red round hats you'd expect in a throw-back hotel. I wish someone with a vision and great taste would buy the hotel and give it the much-needed update but keep the retro flair.
The room and bed was decent, and yes, while vintage, I found it to be very clean. The views of the city are great too if you get put up in a high floor.
Breakfast was included in the price and you'll find a generous buffet of offerings from fresh fruit to eggs and bacon. For those on business, there's ample room in the lobby for a business meeting, so I really liked that. Coworking with colleagues was also pleasant from the small lobby tables. There's a pool and a gym, but I didn't use either so I'm not sure how great they are.
I'd stay here again if the price is right.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 6Oh no 0 - Matt L.Great Neck, Estados Unidos27481859 de fev. de 2018
This is probably my least favor of hotel. Old dingy it just need total new renovation! Breakfast was alright gets boring after while... one block from Pulista that has everything! Btw gym is indoor Not outdoor...??Good luck~

I guess I was lucky after reading some of the reviews, the executive room was just fine, clean, 2 queens bed my only issue was the room door wouldn't lock, but they got it fixed quickly. The lobby is beautiful just need some better lounge furnishings. The location is great and safe. The rate was very reasonable with breakfast included.

This hotel has a lot of good, but also some not so good.
It's got a grand lobby with glass elevators, which are fun and remind me of the 70s. In fact, this hotel is still owned by the 70s, as told by the dated hallway carpet and decor.
The rooms feature cement floors, not so cozy on the feets. The beds are quite stiff, however, I got a decent rest on it. Thick blankets that look like animals when in a pile on the other bed (the blanket was too warm for me to sleep under). There is a fridge and coffee maker. Check your cups closely, mine were dirty!
Annoying power off feature, if you sit still in the room too long, the lights will shut off!
Closet doors are heavy but there is plenty of closet space. It's not a particularly fancy room. I'm sure the guests who entered via the helipad on the hotel roof got nicer rooms.
The room was quiet and the breakfast buffet is nice. I enjoy being able to order omelets. The neighborhood is nice and seems safe. There are restaurants in walking distance and a nice grocery store is about 4 blocks away, near the church.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Matthew H.Spring, Estados Unidos47422565813 de ago. de 2017
Well as all the reviews before me read this hotel is stuck in some time period and just can't get away! When you enter the hotel the impression the bell staff give you is that you are walking into a location that is cared for and kept up with the times, but after the glass doors shock set in. The hotel is very dark, gloomy, and gives the impression of sadness. At checkin I quickly learned that not only is the appearance old the computer system and the digital clocks on the walls are as well. Once I received my hand written receipt I was directed to the lobby elevator. A keycard is required for the elevator. I got in the elevator inserted my key, depressed my floor and nothing happened. After I tried a few more times my floor never had the glow that the floor was selected however the elevator randomly started to move. After stopping at three other floors I was in luck that a house keeper needed a ride down from the floor I needed to get off at, I was able to reach my floor. Rooms are old, bed is about as comfy as a box spring - I guess a mattress is a different charge. I did have an ice box and hot water maker.

Being from California I love and adore the decor. There is a difference in tastefully old and just tacky, and Maksoud has a mid century modern twist that people in Southern California are used to and really cherish. However, while I like the decor, some of it needs love and attention, more specifically in the rooms. The bathroom is kind of gross. Not that it's not clean but it's so dated it's dingy. A clean and nice bathroom is very important to me. Also the laminate floors are a bit sticky and that grossed me out as well haha. So now you know why I gave this place 3 stars. The lobby floor has an adorable retro barbershop, a killer cocktail bar, and a free breakfast buffet, the rooms leave you with more to be desired.

I don't like giving '3's but what can I do? The hotel was once the crown jewel of the neighborhood. Slowly, they are renovating it, but boy, is it dated. The restaurant furniture looks like the furniture in a geriatric ward. The rugs leading to the lounge on the second level are ridiculously stained. A real let down, and quite frankly, grotesque.
The location however is very goos and the rooms are pretty sound proof with good views if you ask for a high room an the backside of building. The lobby is airy, but has an odor.
They have to fix this place. Services were underwhelming, as staff were not plentiful and always seemed to busy for the amount of people staying there.
I rank this place as: 2.5Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Preeti S.Amsterdã, Holanda281602210 de ago. de 2015
Not to be over critical and all but seriously, this is just not the place if you want to stay in Sao Paulo. For the price, you can find plenty other good hotels.
I went in here as I was booked for 4 nights and I checked in and left within an hour....of course they charged me for one night (which is reasonable) and they graciously cancelled the other nights for me (which i appreciate as well)...
But if you want someplace clean, tidy, non-smelly and updated then this is not it.
The lobby is empytish and not an ambience where you could have a business catch up or even a friendly catch up...
The lobby carpet was old, stained and reeked of pee... the room I had was on the presidential suite floor and it was small, very old, faded curtains and couches and just didn't feel clean...
I wouldn't recommend this place for lodging or a meetup - Its my first time in Sao Paulo but I ve realised now that there are plenty other places offering much more for the same price....Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0
