Hand an amazing experience with them, came In late but they were happy to cook for us. Two curries and two Nan, food was amazing, fresh and hot! Too notch considering the other local food here.

This is no doubt a top quality restaurant.
The choice from the menu offers much more than the standard curry house.
Many of the meals are more towards traditional and home style cooking what is fantastic to see. The menu also has all of the standard dishes for those of you who don't like to adventure.
I was delighted to see and taste on-the-bones dishes.
It's the first English / Indian I have come accross to have a dish called Magaz what is Lamb brains, I didn't fancy this but in general the menu has some really differant dishes. If you fancy an Indian that is more like a real indian then give this place a try.
      Quality 10/10
      Cleanliness 10/10
      Customer Service 8/10
      Value 8/10 but worth it.
Overall and in my opinion, Saffron's is better that Akbar's. Akkbar's is a nut what's hard to beat but I believe Saffron has the leading edge.
This is the top curry house in York.

nan breads,...........? nan breads served in a steel a tree? a foot long no less! (only plain nans served this way, as filling will fall out of the stuffed ones!)

if you like fresh green chillies,
this is the place for you! we had a thali, honey chicken, takka dahl, a paneer dish (spinach and cheese) mushroom rice, i asked if they did an aubergine side dish as there was non on the menu an the waiter said he'd ask the chef, if they had some in!
an they did, so they made me one up!

(all the waiters seemed really happy, and were genuinly chatty)

though i mentioned fresh chillies, not all the food is burn your mouth out hot, the heat builds, but never to a point when i think, *gasp water! all the spice flavours are there, no one flavour over powers an other! this chef really knows his food! or will only cook what he likes to eat!

the service was excellent, restaurant very clean, but beware the floor if wearing slick bottomed shoes or high heels as its highly polished wood!

the ladies toilets clean, but the cubicals were a little on the snug side, wide, but not that deep, so you had to step aside to shut the door,
good hand washing facilities and superb toilet roll!
      (i'm not fixated with toilets!)

price wise a little on the expensive side, but with saying that, you have to consider the surroundings, the service, quality of food and its location in town!

We went here having seen some nice reviews. The currys were quite spicey which I appreciated. We were disappointed about the rice - they had added some chilly powder and cumin in the onion rice and mushroom rice which was not mentioned on the menu. I felt there was no need for the added spice in the rice but even if they did, we would have liked to know it as my wife was not keen on all the hot flavours. The naan bread was generous and well cooked. The portions were generous and the ambience quite nice too. Parking - needed to pay for parking around the corner of the road.

This restaurant only gets 2 stars because the food was ok and better than other Indians we've been to. What let it down was the service, staff didn't listen to what you requested, didn't bother to reset the table for mains and looked like they wanted to be somewhere else. We will not be returning.
